Narrowboating October 2023
What does are car mechanic, driving instructor, retired gas engineer, warehouse op, nursery worker and veterinary nurse have in common?
Scouting!
They are all volunteers at our Scout group, who attend weekly Beavers, Cubs and Scout meetings. They also share a passion for narrowboating.
This weekend our adult volunteers are sailing along the Aire & Calder Navigation on a team building event in a boat called Angus Ferguson.
Our neighbouring Scouts in Wakefield, are sea Scouts who own several boats. Several of our volunteers since joining our leadership team have also trained to be boat masters. This means that they can lead events to take our young members on narrowboat expeditions. So far Beavers and Cubs have had opportunities to sail and take boats through locks and our scouts have spent nights away on boats.
Last night, the leadership team met after work at Stanley Ferry for a bar meal before heading up to Leeds today.
22nd Barnsley is one of the best Scout Group’s in Barnsley! The group is run by volunteers committed to improving and sharing life skills with young people and other volunteers.
If any of our parents / extended family members are interested in joining the leadership team, please get in touch.
We are a friendly bunch and will be happy to have you onboard!
